Rising Star MBC was organized on December 18, 1988 by Rev, Leroy West, wife Sis, Dollie West and son Brother Avery McLeod.  Charter members: Mother Hattie Ray, Sis Eudith Rodney and witnessed by Sis Amanda Evans.  Rising Stars first services was intitially held in the home of Pastor Leroy and Sis Dollie West.  This was the Birth of the first congregation of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.

Through the years, under the vision and leadership of Pastor West, Rising Star went on to meet the need of both members and the community through continuous bible study, preaching, teaching, fellowship and charitable giving to the surrounding community.  RSMBC is an active member of the progressive Baptist District Association and the California Missionary Baptist State Convention.

In October of 2010, Pastor West invited Associate Minister, Rev, Dwight A. Sykes from the Bayview Baptist Church, to preach for Sunday service.  Pastor West, led by the Holy Spirit and blessed by the Word of God, was content to announce his retiring from pastoring and asked Rev. Dwight A. Sykes to consider becoming the New Pastor of RSMBC.

On January 23, 2011, Rev, Dwight A. Sykes became the Shepherd for the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.  Pastor Sykes is happily married to his love bride, Sis Jackee Sykes for 45 years.  Pastor Sykes loves the Lord and his people.  By the Grace of God, the Rising Star Church Family continues to grow in the Lord.
